The Florida History & Genealogy Library is located on the 4th Floor at the John F. Germany Public Library. The library has one of the largest genealogy collections in the southeastern United States. The collection focuses on the states from the original 13 colonies, the South, and along the Mississippi River. The reference collection is open to the general public, but unavailable for checkout.
The Florida History collection includes the Burgert Brothers Photographic Archives which include close to 15,000 black and white photos from 1850 to 1963 and a large city directory section. The library also has over 7600 rolls of microfilm from local newspapers including the Tampa Tribune (1895-Present) and the Tampa Bay Times (1901-Present).
October is National Family History Month and American Archives month. The first National Family History Month was designated by the U.S. Congress in Senate Resolution 160 for October 2001. It is interesting to note that it was first read on the floor of the Senate on September 12th, 2001.
